It would be hilarious if it weren't so tragic.
In one corner we find the 50-somethings whose health insurance premiums are rising with age, too young for Medicare. Some whine that the ACA requires every insurance package to cover maternity and pediatric care. "Why should I pay for a benefit I'll never use again?"
In the opposite corner huddle the Young Invincibles, the 20-somethings (the age group most likely to be actively birthing new humans), who are needed to enroll in the ACA to help cover the costly medical expenses of their elders. They cry, "Why should we have to subsidize the cost of drugs and care for chronic disease of the elderly?"
Loudest of all are Young Invincible Men, who complain bitterly about having to pay for maternity and pediatric care ("we have nothing to do with childbirth!") AND for elder care that, of course, they will never need. But yes, let's surely cover trauma and medical costs for males aged 20-50 who sustain, by far, the highest accident rates of any demographic group.
"Divide and conquer" is the time-honored method used by rulers to preserve power. Right-wing media serve some of the most powerful corporate rulers ever seen on this planet; they only stand to gain by dividing the population against itself. We the people must resist the politics of resentment, come together and provide for each other.
