The Service Employees International Union has agreed not to pursue five ballot initiatives related to hospital executive compensation, rates, charity care and transparency.

SEIU Local 49 reached an agreement with the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Care Systems, which had opposed the measures, to form a work group on the issues laid out in the ballot measures, said Felisa Hagins, political director for Local 49.

Legacy Health, Providence Health & Services, Oregon Health & Science University, PeaceHealth, Kaiser Permanente Northwest and the Oregon Nurses Association agreed to meet with SEIU and Gov. John Kitzhaber’s office. The parties will explore partnerships to improve the health care system, according to the governor’s office.
