On the 12th December 2012 a United Nations resolution was unanimously passed, which endorsed universal health coverage as a pillar of sustainable development. Last year over 500 organisations launched a global coalition to accelerate universal health coverage. A joint statement by The Rockefeller Foundation, World Bank Group and World Health Organisation stated:
‘On the first-ever Universal Health Coverage Day, all countries are urged to make quality health coverage accessible to everyone, everywhere.’ Two years on, Riders for Health are urging people to join the effort.
